Groupon is chasing GroupDeal

The TechCrunch post on Groupon 2.0 is a surprise for us, as it shows that Groupon is chasing GroupDeal, the group buying software that our team has developed, powering so many groupon like sites.

Starting from initial version, we added the facility for the merchants to post deals; the Groupon 2.0 interface shows that it's merely a minor tweaks on the concept. But, always I wonder how Groupon is "stealing" the news and getting hype--paid news??

jobreapr, search better fiverr alternatives at one place

Sometime ago, I blogged that FPPlatform is ahead of other Fiverr clone scripts . FPPlatform, aka Fixed-price platform is a freelance job platform written in PHP/MySQL stack that our team has developed. It's powering many good fiverr alternatives. The panic fiverr then tried to close the competitors through PayPal's AUP through false copyright claim--the problems were sorted out through legal measures of the competitors and I hope, fiverr will be forced to pay damages for alleged copyright claim. Problems with Fiverr For sellers, Fiverr charges hefty 20% commission. There are bunch of related complaints about fiverr on the net. Also, on the net can find many buyers complain that sellers in Fiverr are not serious as they would be getting just $4 for every services; sellers have to focus on quantity--not quality to make profit. Better Fiverr alternatives FiverrWay , tracks all fiverr competitors and also publishes rank every month. Being competitors, these sites takes lot of mea...

English fever and low self-esteem

Chinese may be learning English but they are not switching their medium to English—all higher education takes place in Chinese. ... The obsession with English-medium education, particularly for technical and higher studies, is keeping millions of Indian children behind. The top business and professional schools in India remain English-based—their entrance exams are not only in English but specifically test English-language skills. A child in China, or for that matter, Japan or South Korea, does not have to deal with debilitating switch in medium to go to engineering, medical or business school. ... it is worth remembering that only four of the richest 20 economies in the world, by highest per-capita income, are English-based . Universal education, not English-medium, is what gives China the advantage over India. ... It is also a fallacy that our software success is built on knowledge of English. Israel’s population is half of Delhi’s, yet its software exports rival our own. It is...

Interview question #1

Since I have been asked to interview experienced PHP programmers, I was preparing few interview questions. I came to know, most of the people ask questions found in the Internet; most of them are like "What is the function used to connect MySQL DB in PHP". Personally, I don't like these types of questions; I'd thought the person must apply ideas what he was taught in colleges--finally I came out with one question: A product vendor has Quantity Vs. Price data like 1 -> Rs. 50 2 -> Rs. 95 3 -> Rs. 140 .... like upto 1 million data. He wants a system, which gives the price when the quantity is provided. For example, if you provide the quantity value as 2, then it should provide Rs. 95. How this system can be designed? As expected, all the people said about using database tables and quering on quantity. I have asked them to find out a system which doesn't use databases--provided the accuracy of the system may not be 100%--it may give at least 90% ac...
